Literature Analysis #2

1.In “Letting go of Lisa” by Lurlene McDaniel, the novel begin with Nathan Malone in his first day going to a real school. He has been home schooled all his life by his mother. At his first day of high school he is fascinated with Lisa. Lisa isn’t very social, she rides a motorcycle to school, and doesn't pay attention to Nathan. Lisa doesn't let Nathan get close to her, she is always pushing him away. The climax was when Nathan found out that Lisa has a brain tumor. But Nathan didn't care he stayed with Lisa no matter what. Because Lisa had to do chemotherapy, she left to Florida and didn't tell Malone; as she calls him. Nathan Followed them And was there when Lisa took flight.
 2. McDaniel Wrote about this topic because he son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. She said, “I want kids to know that while people don’t get to choose what life gives them, they do get to choose how they respond.” She writes inspirational book to teens, she wants teens to have hope.
3. I chose this book because i loved the cover. The cover look very daring and mysterious. Also, the title of the book got me wondering why it was titled “Letting go of Lisa.”  The cover got my attention. This book made me want to keep reading because it is a love story, but its not a typical love story with a happy ending. 4. This book was really realistic. Many people Are very sick and can't really live life like they want to. Everyday people die because of tumors, cancer or other illnesses. I made a connection to my grampa. She had cancer and a tumor and they couldn't do anything to save her because the cancer had gotten into her heart.
5. The author’s tone is  sentimental, realistic, and earnest.“I took it because … because, you see . . .  I love you” (103).”it’s a date” (142).  “It’s a kind of Brain tumor” (110). “They shaved her head for the Gamma Knife procedure that didn’t work” (173).  “She is blind” (174). “Lisa took flight 3:09 this morning. Charlie “ (177).
6. 1.Motivation - Nathan is motivated by love and Lisa is motivated by her tumor and Malone’s love. 2. Tragic flaw - “Lisa had a brain tumor’’ (113). 3. Symbolism - ..” walked to the mural…” “It’s the tops of royal poincianas-flame trees” (108). Hit symbolism Miami where Lisa used to live. 4.Resolution - Lisa died. “Lisa took flight 3:09 this morning” (177). 5. Exposition - …”dressed in black leather and streamlined helmet,..”(1) 6. Internal conflict - Lisa’s internal conflict is her fear of death because of her tumor. 7. Dynamic Character - Lisa changes from really tough and not letting anyone care about her and then she ends up loving Malone. 8. Round Character -  Nathan Malone expressed his feelings and more. “...You see… I love you” (103). 9. Climax - “Did you follow me?” (103) We get to know what happens to Lisa. 10. flat character - Nathan's Mom, Karen, disapproves his relationship with Lisa and is always over protective over him.
Characterization
1. “Lisa, the Harley Princess” (14). “ Rod “Roddy’... Was a football legend at….” (4) 2. Her diction does changes when Nathan talks about Lisa and how much he loves her. 3.The protagonist id round. He expresses all his feelings throughout the novel. 4. After i read the novel, I felt like i met Lisa. Lisa is a strong teenager who is fight and won’t back down for anything. she is living the way she wants. “I’m not planing to go to college” (87).
One Idea that i will remember for a long time is that people can be happy even though they are very sick. They deserve to live like any other person. And we should be very proud of those people. They really deserve our respect and admiration.
