In Antigone, by Sophocles Antigone and Creon have traits that make them special. Both characters are stubborn and follow their own principles. Because they do what they want, this will lead them to their misfortune.
Antigone and Creon are very different people.Antigone is loyal to her family, she wants to bury her brother Polyneices. She says, "Ismene, I am going to bury him." (774. 32). Antigone doesn't think it is fair that Creon buried Eteocles but not Polynieces. She also says,"I am not afraid of the danger if it means death. I will not be the worst of deaths without honor" ( 775. 87-88). This shows that Antigone does't care of the danger all she wants is to bury her brother. Antigone is also loyal to the gods. In scene 4, she explains to Creon how the gods know she is right and she made the decision on burring her brother. She believes in the gods and thinks Creon should too. She doesn't feel guilt at all. She knows the gods are happy with what she did. On the other hand Creon is loyal to the state. Creon says, "No ruler can expect complete loyalty from his subjects until he has been tested in the office" (777. 19-20). This shows that he cares about the state. He wants to be a good ruler. In scene 1, Creon gives a speech about his principles and expectations. He wants to be a good ruler and who ever does something wrong will get punished.
Both, Antigone and Creon are proud. Antigone says, " No, Ismene. You have no right to say so. You would not help me, I will not have you help me." ( 785. 148-149). She doesn't want anyone to take credit for what she did. She doesn't anyone to steel he spotlight, not even her sister. In scene 3, she rubs her action on Creon's face. This demonstrates that she doesn't care what will happen next because she already buried her brother. Creon is also proud, he says, " If we must lose, let's lose to a man, at least! Is a women stronger than we?" ( 792. 50-51). He is okay loosing to a man but loosing to a women is like an insult. It does't speak any good about them if they lose to a women. In scene 3, Creon speak very ignorant when he tries to convince his son Hamion that Antigone should die. This shows Creon is willing to convince whoever to do what he wants, and no one can tell him wrong.
Creon deserves what happened to him. Everyone deserves to be buried, even if they are traitors. With Antigone it is different should not have been punished. She did the right thing, Polyneices deserved to be buried. Antigone is very brave and she acts on instinct. Antigone had to live.
